DISCARD RUMOR; EXAM DATE NOT FIXED YET

The attention executive of some executives has been drawn towards a particular release spreading on the social media that the students of the polytechnic should get prepared for their examinations on the 16th of October, 2017. This news then demand them to seek further information from reliable source to confirm if it is true or not and they found out that it was not true. The school management is yet to make pronouncement about the 2016/2017 upcoming second semester examination.

In furtherance, students of the polytechnic especially the pen pushers are urged to turn deaf ear and apply mute mood to the fake news being spread across all social media platforms concerning the commencement of the exams.

However, it should be known that the school now possesses a newly appointed Rector, who is currently undergoing series of meetings with the management and ASUP on the possibility of having the examination done successfully.

Students are enjoined to desist from broadcasting such unreal and unconfirmed statements as it could be detrimental to some who are faraway from school and apparently misinform the entire population of the students.

Moreso, students are apprise to always adopt the reliability method by waiting on some genuine and registered association, departmental Executive, and students' Union representatives in the school for a well confirmed information before the final consumption.

Hopefully, all hands are on desk and in no time, we should all be expecting a positive deliberation towards the swift commencement of our examinations.

Once again, the AMACOS Executive will at all time remain responsive and proactive to inform you when any development takes place within the campus as per the commencement of the examination and other things.

God bless you all
God bless AMACOS
God bless MAPOLY.

MAPOLY WILL STILL BE IN EXISTENCE IN FOUR YEARS- AMOSUN (See Photos)

MAPOLY WILL STILL BE IN EXISTENCE IN FOUR YEARS- AMOSUN

* Appoints Acting Rector

* As students protest state of education in the State

Michael Adesanya
Abeokuta

Against insinuations that the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Ojere, Abeokuta, Ogun State has gone into extinction over the upgrading of the school to a University status, the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has said the school would still be in existence for the next four years.

Amosun disclosed this while speaking to the State students who came in their hundreds to his Oke-Mosan Governor's Office, Abeokuta to protest the state of education in the State.

The State recently upgraded MAPOLY to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) and created Ogun State Polytechnic which would be located at Ipokia area of the State.

The placard carrying students under the aegis of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Ogun axis began their protest at the National Nigeria Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Abiola Way down to the Governor's Office where the demonstration was terminated.

They tagged their action "Rescue Ogun State Education Campaign (ROSEC)". Some of the placard inscriptions read: " Save Ogun State education ", " Education must survive" and "Mapoly must survive".

The Chairman of Ogun NANS, Comrade Olawale Balogun told the Governor that the students was not happy with the State of education in the State, urging the government to address the issue as a matter of urgency.

He specifically mentioned the delay in the commencement of the examination of MAPOLY, saying the action would affect the career of the students.

Balogun said the association was not in tune with the cancellation of the payment of West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and the hike in the Acceptance fee of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye.

The Governor said the State government is working hard to improve the standard of education in the State.

On MAPOLY, Amosun disclosed that it was their lecturers who were delaying their exams, saying he has explained to them the issues in clear terms.

He said the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) of the school would be invited immediately to address the issue.

The Governor said the students who were currently running various programmes at different levels would finished their studies, insisting that no student would be taken to Ipokia.

Amosun emphatically said that there would not be automatic appointment for the aggrieved lecturers in both the University and the new polytechnic, insisting they would have to apply for the new ones.

"I am not happy because this my school. What is happening today is because those that have been given the privilege to serve us are not serving well"

" Everybody here (current MAPOLY students) will finish their courses, it will take four years before MAPOLY will go into extinction, You are not going to Ipokia . If the lecturers don't want that, we will sort them out"

On the University and new Polytechnic, he said "We will sort for new lecturers for the university and the new poly.  Mapoly lecturers are not comfortable with it, I said the appointment they have is for MAPOLY, for the new University, they will have to reapply. If they are qualified, they can take them".

"I will ask the Commissioner to meet them again".

On the delay exams, the Governor stressed "They cannot hold us to Ransom, they will explain to us why there is delay but it cannot be because we are creating new schools".

"We are only admitting ND 1. We are not admitting any student to Mapoly. We are not sacking anybody, we are not taking them automatically. Why should we carry another place problem to new one.

"We are only admitting ND one. If you have carryover you are going to Ipokia. I told them (management) don't admit new students to MAPOLY".

He added "Education will be free at the primary and secondary schools, for tertiary we will subsidise it".

Meanwhile, the Rector of the school, Prof Oladele Itiola has proceeded on his terminal leave.

The State government in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Taiwo  Adeoluwa however appointed, Mr Ayodeji Salimon as the Acting Rector of the school with immediate effect.

REPORT AFTER MAPOLY PEACEFUL PROTEST UPDATES

Prior to the peaceful protest of the Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Mapoly) today Wednesday 3 Oct, 2017, His excellency Governor Ibikunle Amosun.(Gcon,Fca) is not happy because it's his school(alma mata). He said some people given the privilege to serve the students are not serving us well.

The ND1 - HND11 students presently in mapoly will complete their program in Mapoly. That is, they're not going to Ipokia.

He also said it will take four(4) years before mapoly goes into extinction. He said if the lecturers don't accept or begin exams ASAP, they'll be sorted out. He said new lectures would be employed for the university. The qualified ones in the Polytechnic should re-apply if qualified. He also said the lecturers are trying to hoodwink the government.

Only ND prospects are going to Ipokia. Carry over or extra year students are going to Ipokia to re-write. Because according to the governor, "your parents didn't send you to school to fail". No HND would be admitted in Mapoly or Ipokia because Ipokia can only admit ND students.

Peaceful Protest - Rescue Ogun State Education Campaign (ROSEC) 2017

Greatest Nigerian Students!!!!!!!!

It is no more news that the leadership of NANS JCC Ogun State Axis bemoaned the unsuitable and ineffective educational system in Ogun State, which resulted into multifarious consultations and deliberations on how the state Government can respond swiftly to those shortcomings.

Recently, NANS Ogun State Axis held a Senate meeting on the 25th September 2017, which comprised the SUG Presidents of our tertiary institutions in Ogun State in order to call upon the state Government to find a long lasting solutions to all resolutions derived at the Senate meeting.

Apparently, the leadership of NANS JCC Ogun State Axis gave the state Government 72 hours Ultimatum which began 2pm Tuesday 26th September, 2017 and lapsed 2pm Friday 29th September, 2017.

However, with the failure of the state Government to respond and address all our demands concluded at the Senate meeting within the given hours of ultimatum, we hereby media phone to all Nigerian Students the necessity of participating in the forthcoming united campaign  tagged "RESCUE OGUN STATE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN (ROSEC) 2017".

On the issue of MAPOLY and education in Ogun State at large, NANS Ogun axis calls all legitimate and bonafide Students schooling on the soil of Ogun State to join a peaceful protest.

MAPOLY ASUP DEMANDS CLARIFICATION FROM NBTE

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), have demanded clarification from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), over the status of the newly established Ogun State Polytechnic located at Ipokia area of the state.
Stating this was the National Vice-President of the association, Comrade Timothy Ogunseye, at a press conference in Abeokuta, on Tuesday, who said that the Board must as a matter of urgency published the names of courses it had accredited for the polytechnic billed to take off by December. The state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, had at the foundation laying of the new institution, submitted that the NBTE had accredited 42 courses for the new polytechnic.

However, the ASUP vice chairman, faulted the governor’s claim, insisting that the Board could not have accredited 42 programmes for the new polytechnic which was yet to have any physical infrastructure. He said the leadership of the union would not abandon its members in MAPOLY in the on-going struggle, maintaining that the two institutions could co-exist for a period of three years.

Ogunseye said, “Our position in this regard is that there must be a gestation period during which people can move people from Abeokuta to Ipokia. And we are of the opinion that there is nothing wrong if the polytechnic, as well as the university, can co-exist for the next three years. From there, our members can now move to Ipokia, by which time we expect the level of infrastructure in Ipokia to have been upgraded.

“As we speak, we have nothing on the ground in Ipokia. And please we need to correct this impression, ASAP in MAPOLY or any staff is not against the establishment of polytechnic in Ipokia. All we are saying is that where you even do that, issues surrounding staff career development, students’ comfort, all these issues have to be looked into.

“Honestly, if that programme is to work, we expect the government to spearhead a mass house revolution in Ipokia where accommodation would be made available for staff and students and where classroom blocks, laboratories, workshops, all those things would have been built before we consider the movement at all. “Otherwise, all they are just trying to do now is to go around it and asking our colleague to be facing all this hardship and sufferings, and we are saying all these things should not be. “We are not doing this because of our members alone but because of the students which the institution will produce.”

Similarly speaking, the ASUP coordinator, Zone C, Wale Omoobaorun, said that only 27 programmes were accredited by NBTE. He said that the union was not against the establishment of the new polytechnic, but that government should have a robust discussion with the union on the transition.

MAUSTECH Unrealistic, ‘A Wild Goose Chase’ – ASUP

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, (MAPOLY) branch, Abeokuta, has described as a ‘wild goose chase’, the plan by the Ogun State Government to establish Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The union, equally expressed doubts over the state government’s capacity and ability to fund the new university in a sustainable manner, considering that salaries of the MAPOLY staff were being paid from students’ school fees.

Rising from a special congress to review the proposed university, yesterday, the union, in a communiqué signed by the ASUP state chairman, Mr. Kola Abiola, the union declared it no longer have confidence in the membership and activities of the transition committee led by former Executive Secretary, National University Commission, Prof. Peter Okebukola.

The communiqué read in part: “What are the resources on ground to facilitate the approval to commence operations in the proposed Ogun State Polytechnic? How is MAUSTECH and the new Ogun State Polytechnic going to be funded, especially the funding of overhead costs in the short run?

“How do we ensure on a sustainable basis, the payment of salaries of over seven hundred (700) existing staff of MAPOLY? This is a pertinent question, given the fact that presently, salaries are mainly sourced from school fees paid and especially now that admission is being suspended and even the new university and Ogun State Polytechnic will of necessity admit less numbers of students (both being new institutions of learning respectively?”

The union, however, noted that the transition committee had lost its relevance, submitting “ASUP MAPOLY chapter is strongly in support of the establishment of Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology.”

FG Sets Up Negotiating Teams With Polytechnics, Education Colleges

The Federal Government has inaugurated two separate teams to renegotiate the agreements it reached with staff unions in the nation’s public Colleges of Education (CoEs) and Polytechnics in 2010.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who inaugurated the teams in Abuja, said the agreements were due for renegotiation since 2013 but the exercise did not take place because of some unforeseen circumstances.

A statement made available to The AUTHORITY on Wednesday by the Ministry said the Minister charged members of the renegotiating teams to study the agreements entered into with all the unions with a view to reaching a workable and sustainable agreement.

“As members of the government teams, you are expected to play your role with skill and efficiency to come up with agreements that will help in stimulating rapid growth of the Colleges of Education and Polytechnics and make them more competitive and attractive”, he said.

Chairman of Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Mohammed Ababakar, is to chair the team to renegotiate with Polytechnic Unions, while the Chairman of Governing Council, Federal College of Education, Obudu, Dr Obi Anthony, leads the team to renegotiate with Unions in Colleges of Education.

Each team comprises 14 members made up of relevant stakeholders, including representatives of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment as well as Ministry of Finance.

Others are representatives of Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Budget and National Planning, and that of National Salaries, Incomes & Wages Commission.

NASU, ASUP MAPOLY CHAPTER DISAGREE WITH THE TRANSITION COMMITTEE OVER THE PROPOSED DISMISSAL OF OVER 250 STAFFERS IN MAPOLY

It is no more news that the prestigious polytechnic in Abeokuta, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has been converted into a university of science and technology under the effective administration of his Excellency, Governor Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA.

The transition committee which is being chaired by Professor Peter Okebukola, has ordered the sack of over 250 workers in the institution and call for a fresh application for those that are eligible to work in the newly established University.

This corroborates the fact that all workers are being automatically sacked by the committee and which they tend to reapply as fresh applicants into the institution.

Aftermath of the board meeting yesterday, which encompassed the transition committee and all recognised bodies in the institution, it was unanimously agreed that such inhuman decision would not be taken by all staffers of the polytechnic.

All bodies, NASU and ASUP including the students of the school, made a huge convergence at the school entrance this morning, 12th July, 2017 to show a prompt unacceptance to the dismissal of all workers and to restrict all activities on campus. Students have lamented for a quick resolution so as not to jeopardize their academic Career and hold the academic activities into ransom.

We however use this medium to urge the responsive and responsible Ogun state government ably led by his Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun  CON, FCA to implement a swift antidote to the situation and allow peace to reign in the institution and state as large.

In result of that, we all know that "a stitch in time saves nine", this is the only solution we need before situation goes out of hands. More information to come.
