Acting Mapoly Rector Escaped BLACKWEEK DAY2 #SAVEMAPOLY

Greatest Nigerian Students
I think its high time we let the Govt and the school management know that we are fed of this game they are involved in. Its affecting our personal life and if care is not taken things may worsen more than this.

The incident happened this morning when we all gathered at Skating ground to go and have dialogue with the school management most especially the Rector. On getting to school, the gate was locked, we told them at the school gate that we didn't come for Violence, that we are here to see the Rector.
The school gate was opened, on getting there, the school PRO was sighted trying to escape through the bush behind the uncommissioned filling station beside the gate, some students went after him and told him we only wanted to see the Rector, and he complied with us, he was taken down to the school admin with a bike to call the attention of the Rector to the students at the school entrance.

Few minutes later, the CSO brought the Rector in the Campus Security Surveillance hilux bus, open roof, the Rector actually started his speech, but it reached a point where he started acting cunning, so the students shouted that we want you to follow us down to the governor's office, and he actually agreed to do that.

We moved out of the school premises in masses having the Rector amidst us. When we got to Iyana Oloke at the end of the untarred road, some armed policemen approached us and ask that where are we going to, we told them we are heading to the governor's office, and they allowed us to pass. On getting to the tarred road, the person who drove the Hilux suddenly opened the door, and started driving recklessly, hitting students on the road, meanwhile we have close to 20 students at the back of the hilux jeep, some fell down, the bus stepped on some students leg, some from behind. The remaining students at the back of the Hilux were nowhere to be found now.

That was what happened that provoked the students and we mobbed the road and silence everywhere to panseke. On getting there, we met armed policemen fully loaded and set with their gun ready to fire shots at us.

Merciful Nigerians, come and save our lives from oppressors, we are tired, we can't continue to face this sufferness.
See the way police officers are harassing us.
God help us

We recorded about 29 students that were injured right now. The Rector was not kidnapped, the CSO carried him away.

MAPOLY lecturers punishing their students, says Commissioner.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Modupe Mujota, has revealed that the lecturers of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) are punishing students and have picked the wrong battle.

She made this remark when fielding questions from members of the State House Committee on Finance and Appropriation presiding over the budget defence at the House of Assembly complex on Friday.

Mujota opined that request tabled by Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, MAPOLY Chapter that admission of students be allowed into either MAPOLY or Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia is unsubstantial.

Mujota claimed that it was not the business of the lecturers to decide on admission, claiming that the strike is de-marketing the school in the admission market.

Her words, "They are insisting that admission must commence either at Ipokia or Mapoly for OND, and we are saying it’s not your problem, your problem was the HND which have been addressed.

“The lecturers delaying the start of the examination is de-marketing the school themselves because those who are to be applying for the HND programme both full time and part time are going to be second-guessing themselves, that why should I apply for a school that is yet to write their examination?"

Meanwhile, she explained that the ministry was always open for communication with the institution, noting that she had on different occasion met with various groups from the institution.

"I have played host to different teams from Academic staff to the non-academic staff union of the school. We have explained and articulated what the thinking of the administration was and the fact that we are not going back on Ipokia."

She denounced the lecturers unyielding attitude, asserting that “the joy of every lecturer is to see their their students pass exams and go on to do well in their future endeavours, but the lecturers of MAPOLY are killing what should be their joy.

She also accused the lecturers of being mischievous in their handling of the whole issue, claiming that their refusal to submit examination questions even before the strike could attract some punitive measures from the government.

"We could decide to go hard on them because their action was a violation of calendar, they should have submitted their questions way before they started their strike, there is a bit of mischief in their handling of the matter."

When questioned on the unpaid salary of the lecturers, she said, "I don’t know where you pay people that don’t work."

Mujota did state that Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s stance that all students of MAPOLY would finish their programme in MAPOLY is still valid, noting that the lecturers also have four years to formalize their decision on whether to go to Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia which they have been assured of free passage or vie for positions based on their qualifications at Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH).

PROTEST: Mapoly Students Declares "BLACK WEEK" In Abeokuta (See Facebook/Whatsapp Screenshot) #SaveMapoly

The #SaveMapoly Campaign, the Average Nigerian Student Dilemma and Need for Proactive Policies

Olanrewaju Oyedeji

When I woke up and saw students thronging to the social media with their hashtags, right in my head I knew they have been frustrated and saw the Need to act.
Nonetheless , it Is worrisome that even with the embarrassing state of Nigerian Education and what students are made to pass through, constant disagreements on policies continue to ravage our campuses.
I have heard arguments that politicians act the way they do because they don't have their kids in Nigerian public Varsities, while I agree to some extent, I believe it still boils down to lack of basic urge for responsibility. It is funny that it is when students file out or launch a Social Media campaign that conflicts receive very fast pace of resolution. In a situation where the world is clamoring for better Educated individuals, it is funny that our own country keep diminishing in quality but improves in quantity.
One can begin to ask questions of if the Ogun State Government made a unilateral decision in deciding to turn Mapoly to a University, in a normal setting, the staff Union should be carried along when the decisions were made.
It seems in Nigeria we care less about the time factor, administrators sometimes I think feel students should be ready to wait even longer.

A responsible government should not wait till students protest or take policies that would harm them.
While it is encouraging that students now explore the Social and Digital Media, the fundamental question one needs to ask is why disagreements need to take place from time to time in Nigerian Education sector, there has been arguments that Education is too cheap in Nigeria but Education especially for a developing country like ours should be made accessible for as low as possible.
The #SaveMapoly Campaign shows the continued dearth we have in the Education sector, the need to revamp the sector and the need to allow more funding which would be monitored from time to time.
Sometimes it's not just about establishing a University, it's about not delaying even the future of the thousands of students policies affect, only those that take Education seriously, build a future.
All stakeholders should join the voice to #SaveMapoly and bring everyone to listen to the plight of this beautifully made students even as they cry in pain.

We however relay our note of invitation to all Nigerian students in the state to this memorable programme, Ogun State 2017 international Students' Day as this will serve as a platform for further acquaintance of knowledge to everyone.

Now it is glaring what Asup wants which is not far fetched and is very right and legal and the strike they ignited is what is holding us back from either graduating or promoting to the next level and in that course the state government is the culprit here who promised what 1/4 has not yet been fulfilled, hence, let face the right course and channel our grievances in the right direction.

NAPS CONDEMNS MISMANAGEMENT OF STUDENT'S WELFARISM IN MAPOLY

Following the further cancellation of examination in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as a result of the indefinite strike embarked on by ASUP MAPOLY Chapter, it has clearly been revealed that the welfarism of our students has greatly been denied of them and has been mismanaged.

An adage says, "when two elephants fight, the field around bears the pain". The students has for long been suffering from the crisis rising between the Ogun State government and ASUP MAPOLY Chapter, but *"enough is enough",* we cannot continue to suffer the pain.

Their crisis has affected us in the following ways:
1. It has made us live at extra cost out of hope that the crisis will end soon. Many of our students are still in Abeokuta suffering to feed themselves, we achieved nothing in school, yet we are spending on daily basis. Many as well has been travelling to and fro over this issue spending a lot.

2. Extension in days of education leading to another payment of house rent for students who should have finish and leave for their various places.

3. Delay in the academic career of our students. HND 2 students are facing the risk of going for their NYSC, ND1 students are with the doubt of going for their SIWES and ND 2 students are with the fear of shortened days of their IT.

4. Loss of student's life. Some of our students were involved in an accident last week where their vehicle got totally burnt with some passengers. This was reported by a HND 1 student of Microbiology who escaped the death due to a phone call she got down from the vehicle to go and received when the vehicle broke down. How long shall we continue to lose our students life over this issue?

The Management of MAPOLY has watched the government suffer her lecturers for long and now they have been watching them suffer their students.

The ASUP has rightly been fighting for themselves and now NAPS would embark on seriously fighting for their students too if these crisis are not resolved within one week from now. Within this one week, the management should also speak to us over the issue that the students may all fully know what is happening. We would not watch the management suffer our lecturers and students any longer.

If our desire is not met in a week, we would not hesitate to take this issue up to powerful, higher and royal authorities in Ogun State and in Nigeria.

Govt Earmarks 50 Billion Naira For Moshood Abiola Uni, Ogun Poly

Ogun State government has set aside the sum of N50billion for the take off the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH), Abeokuta, and the newly established Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.

The state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, disclosed this on Saturday during the Treasury Board meeting for the 2018 budget preparation held at the Obas’ Complex in Abeokuta, the state capital.

“Government has earmarked N50 billion for the take-off of the two schools,” the governor said.

He, however, urged lecturers at present Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) who are desirous of going to the new polytechnic in Ipokia not to hesitate at making their intention known as soon as possible.

Governor Amosun also asked the lecturers to distant themselves from those who do not appreciate the ongoing development of the institution.

He urged them to continue to support government’s agenda at rebuilding education sector in the state, saying the two institutions have come to stay.

“Don’t allow yourself to be used by anyone who does not mean well for the citizens of the state,” the governor said.

SAVEMAPOLY - DAY2 - WHY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD CALL ON THE OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT

We are writing to the Federal government of Nigeria to help us ask the state government why it has been difficult for Ogun state government to meet with the demand of Asup Mapoly when the future of over 25,000 students are at stake.

Asup Mapoly demands
  1. 1. Admission of N.D into Mapoly or Ogun state Poly (ipokia)
  2. 2. Payment of Outstanding 2month salaries
  3. 3. Written Agreement that Ogun state government will continue to pay them for the next 4yrs that Mapoly will exist for before going into extinction.
Greatest Nigerian Student! we could recall that the state government instruct the school management not to admit for 2017/18 academic session where as the state Government have not be the one sponsoring the payment of staff salaries instead this is done by the school management her self.
For Ogun State govt to put the school source of income on hold that means their should be a proper funding and paying of salaries from the govt, which reverse  is the case now.

I also want us to have it in mind that these lecturers are parent that depend on their salary for survival, why are you not paying them Ogun state govt?
Why is it HARD or difficult for Ogun state government to give Asup Mapoly a written document that they will continue to pay their salaries for the next 4years.

Join us live on FACEBOOK by 3pm as we will be talking to our past union leaders and Nans Ogun jcc chairman to discuss why they have been silent over this issue.

MAPOLY Resumes Academic Activities - ASUP MAPOLY CHAPTER

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, Chapter has decided to suspend the ongoing industrial action and resumed full academic activities on Monday 23rd October, 2017.

The Union took the decision at its congress held on Friday October 20, 2017.
It would be recalled that the Union has been on a work-to-rule since September 18 of this year, which consequently resulted in the suspension of the school’s second semester examination.

Chairman of MAPOLY ASUP, Comrade Kola Abiola, while briefing journalists after the meeting alleged that the government did not only ignore its letters and communiqués but also paid half salaries of September to staff of the institution.

He said, “60% of salaries of September is yet to be paid and the assurance for salaries of October is not guaranteed, even according to the governor”
However, the union out of trust for the new rector resolved to suspend the ‘work to rule’- an industrial action in which workers are present at work but slow down their operations.

“The Acting Rector, Mr. Ayodeji Tella made series of promises concerning welfare and the admission process as a mark of trust for the rector, we decided to suspend the work-to-rule that we have embarked on”,he said.

The union gave the management two weeks ultimatum to balance the staff salary or witness an indefinite and strongly marked industrial dispute.
Mr. Abiola said, “we have given the management two weeks ultimatum in which the balance of the 60% of last month salary should be paid and ND1 admission into either Ogun state Polytechnic, Ipokia or/and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta should commence”.

“If you don’t admit into either of the two schools this year, that means that one academic session is lost and it has an implication with the regulatory authority” he explained.

The union stated some other conditions which include a reply to its last communiqué dated 1st October, 2017 by the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology.

Abiola said, “At the end of the two weeks, if these conditions are not met, then the union would have no choice but to declare industrial dispute with the management of MAPOLY”.

When asked about the date for the commencement of the exam, he said it was not in the position of the union to tell when to start exam because “it is the prerogative of the management to arrange the calendar and decide when to start exam”.

Meanwhile, the governor of Ogun state, Senator Ibikunle Amosu has earlier in the day assured students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic at a Town Hall meeting for 2018 budget, that the school may start exam on Monday.

He said, “Before I left for Abuja yesterday, I met with your new rector and I asked him about the exam. He said he was looking at Monday next week…. You may start on Monday.

Comrade Abiola refuted the governor’s claim saying “our decisions were not borne out of any intimidation by anybody. What we have done as academic staff is not to confront anybody but to ask that the basic welfare of the people you want to move to the new location of the school should be paramount”
He claimed that no lecturer is bordered about going to the newly established Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia but the government should put into cognizance the conduciveness of the said institution and the welfare of lecturers.
“We have asked the government not to engage in illegality. Ogun state polytechnic is not known by law. Why do you want to move staff that are employed by a legal entity to a school that does not have any legal standing” he queried”
