"Is Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Mapoly) and Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia the same?" has been a concern and most asked question from the aspirants of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.

The ex-governor of Ogun State, Amosun caused great chaos in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic by trying to create a new polytechnic in the state and upgrading Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (Maustech).

Unfortunately, this never worked out as he planned as the Management of Mapoly disagreed with most of the steps taken by Amosun.

After handling over to Dapo, the current Governor of the Ogun State, he reversed back every chaos created by the ex-governor, Amosun to its normal state by discontinuing the Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia project and therefore resume back the admission for National Diploma in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.

The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has started admitting new students who want to gain admission into National Diploma while Ogun Polytechnics Ipokia project has been put to a pause.

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and Ogun State Polytechnic are different institutions that would be run by different management; so they are not the same.

If you have chosen Ogunpoly, Ipokia in this year Jamb, know that Mapoly has given you option that you can apply for Mapoly instead. When applying on Mapoly website, register with your Jamb number. Your information will be sync to Mapoly. Note that this doesn't that Mapoly and Ogunpoly, Ipokia are the same because you will resume to Mapoly and not Ipokia

As from next session ( 2020/2021 ), it is very possible that new aspirant will be able to choose Mapoly when registering through Jamb.

ASUP MAPOLY RESOLVES TO RESUME PART-TIME LECTURES

Members of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics in Nigeria (ASUP) of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta Chapter at its congress on Thursday, 11th October, 2018, agreed to resume lectures for all Part-Time categories of students with effect from Monday, 15th October, 2018, following the fulfillment of part of its requests by the Management.

It should be recalled that an indefinite strike action embarked upon by the ASUP to press home its demands in September, 2018, obstructed academic activities for Part-Time Students of the Institution.

By this development, all Part-Time National Diploma and Higher National Diploma students are advised to resume for lectures on Monday, 15th October, 2018.

Meanwhile, all categories of students, who are yet to complete the payment of school fees (i.e 40% balance) and registration for the 2017/2018 academic session, are being reminded to do so before the closure of the portal.

MAPOLY lecturers declare ‘work-to-rule’ strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, on Monday, declared a ‘work to rule’ strike over what it called sorry-state of the institution and unpaid salaries as well as cooperative deductions.

The union also demanded true state of accreditation of courses at the newly established Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Rising from an emergency congress of the chapter on Monday in Abeokuta, the Zone ‘C’ Coordinator of ASUP, Comrade Olawale Omobaorun noted that the future of the institution is hanging in the balance.

It would be recalled that the government last upgraded the polytechnic into Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) and transferred the structure of the hitherto MAPOLY to the new polytechnic.

The Union leader recalled that some of the agitation which led to union’s two months industrial action in 2017 had not been addressed.

Omobaorun said the ASUP had written to the NBTE seeking confirmation of the new polytechnic’s accreditation approval but the board has not replied barely a year after the letter was written.

“The 38 years old foremost model polytechnic in Nigeria with record of uninterrupted academics sessions even without government subvention for over a decade have been battling a war of conspiracy with both its owner (Ogun State Government) and the two most important stakeholders in the education sector in the country, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) respectively in its quest for survival,” he said.

The Zonal Coordinator lamented that the institution “is at the verge of collapse”, calling for an emergency attention it deserves to save the situation.

This action shall be sustained until our demands are met.

“It may interest you to note that economic activities and strength of the state are now been traumatized by the seized glory of MAPOLY,” the union leader said.

The government of Ogun state has killed MAPOLY

The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Chapter, Comrade Kola Abiola has claimed that the academic staff will follow the school calendar despite the challenges facing the staff.

Abiola speaking on a radio program "Ayekooto" on sweet fm 107.1 in Abeokuta on Friday evening said the Ogun state government has killed MAPOLY.

The ASUP chairman further explained that the Union is not against the creation of new polytechnic, adding that they are after job security of its members.

He said, "lecturers are not happy to delay students on campus, we are still going to follow the school calendar, the date slated for exam is the day students are going to write their exam if anything should go wrong the school management should be responsible, but, we the staff are not saying you should not write exam"

"The reason behind all the crises of OGUNPOLY/MAPOLY is that our members should not lose their job, but, we were shocked when we heard the news from NBTE that there is no MAPOLY and they have not approved OGUNPOLY to kick off."

"If this month end it will be four months that we have not been paid salary, we have completed one year for part-time students without receiving any dime for it"

"We were not thugs and we have not destroyed any government property since the emergence of this issue, but, we were amazed that the Ogun state government describe us as a terrorist that they can’t talk to us, we have said it and we will continue to be saying it that, the progress of the state is our priority".

"Before all these crises, NBTE approved all the 24 courses offered in MAPOLY to continue for the next five years, with this approval MAPOLY can admit students into ND and HND programme for five years".

"We duplicate the approval letter and we send it to the governor that the window can be continued and use that time to develop OGUNPOLY".

Drama as student, lecturer exchange words in class room

There was a mild drama in HND1 department of Mass communication following a disagreement between a lecturer and a student.

PCM gathered that the disagreement erupted when a Senior Lecturer at the department, Wasiu Tejuosho claimed that one of his past students often pay him N250,000, a week before Ileya festival, as a means of appreciation.

It was observed that a student screamed at the top of his voice, shouting ‘na lie’.

Following the student’s claim, the class turned a market where noise got to the verge of calling the attention of the lecturer, thereby disrupting the class activities.

However, the lecturer, on an attempt to get the accused student, called on the school securities arresting over 15 students of the class for interrogation before nemesis caught up with the suspects.

The accused student, as at the time of filing this report was dragged to the school security unit for punishment

Protest in MAPOLY, as graduating students allege plots to delay NYSC deployment

Fresh report reaching Maustech News as at PRESS TIME from Abeokuta this morning Monday March 26 has it that HND II Graduating  students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic are strongly protesting alleged plots and plans by the institution’s management  and lecturers to delay their deployment for the compulsory National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Scheme which they’re due for.

According to some of the protesting students,  “ASUP MAPOLY has allegedly deliberately refused to release results for all levels while the current graduands won’t go for NYSC until November 2018”.
