Ogun Govt., Management approve ASUP 2018 salary

Normalcy has begun steps to restore in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun approved the payment of December, 2018 salary for both teaching and non-teaching staffs of the Polytechnic, being part of the request of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, (ASUP) Mapoly chapter.

The Polytechnic Rector, Dr. Samson Odedina revealed this development to the Students’ Union Government executives led by Comrade Owoiya Rasaq, after he signed to the approval from the State Government to pay all levels of the Polytechnic staffs on Wednesday.

It would be recalled that the Students’ Union Government executives had met with the Polytechnic Deputy Rector on January 14th, 2019 and also held another closed-door meeting with the Rector on January 17th, 2019, promising that, Mapaites would resume soon.

The Students Union executives in support of Dr. Odedina have begun steps to bring laughter to the lecturer’s face, promising that total normalcy would be restored to the polytechnic soon.

However, Dr. Odedina also promised that the payment of November 2017 salary as requested by the ASUP MAPOLY chapter would be paid soon as the management are working tirelessly to liaise with the State Government over the payment in other to make Mapaites return back to campus.

The Students Union Government under the leadership of Comrade Owoiya Rasaq (OWOMUMMY) will not rest on his shores until the final normalcy restored to our great citadel of learning.
Fellow colleagues, this is not the time to speak ill of any governance nor to condemn any government, but the time to come together and speak with one voice and also shy away from political differences, religious background and societal ideologies

He was appointed on Wednesday just as the staff of the institution continue with the indefinite strike.

The appointment came as the state government gave a-24 hour deadline for members of ASUP to indicate interest whether to work at the new Polytechnic in Ipokia or not .

The state government had begun the process of tranformation of MAPOLY into Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology and had ordered the staff to transist their status to the new Polytechnic in Ipokia.

GO AND MAKE YOUR RESEARCH, ASUP MAPOLY TELLS NAPS

The stand of ASUP over MAPOLY-OGUNPOLY transformation made by the government of Ogun State remained the assumed unanswered question that everyone including the governor wants to know. Though these had earlier been disseminated by ASUP according to their last communique from the meeting that resulted to the ongoing ASUP MAPOLY indefinite strike, they have however been further told by the ASUP Chairman, Mr. Kola Abiola in a phone conversation held last night with NAPS National Director of Programs, Comrade Oluwasegun Akinniyi.

Over the admission crisis, he was persistent on the fact that they will teach if taken to Ipokia provided there are students to teach and classes to occupy them. In a point to defend the  fact that those conditions were not provided, he said, "stop listening to 'they say', let your press or other interested students go to Ipokia, go and check the building and their status, then come back and tell all students from your result if it is the government or ASUP that had been lying and delaying you."

As regard the salary, he insisted on not saying anything over it, since it  may be a way of speaking to his own favour. "Go to the bursary, find out how much they paid and how much they are supposed to pay. You will then know if ASUP are lying." He said.

Speaking generally, Mr. Kola Abiola declares that ASUP MAPOLY are joining the general ASUP strike across the country. "If Nigeria is sick, is Ogun State not sick as well," he said.

The about eight minutes call has publicly revealed that the stand of ASUP are;
1. That Ipokia construction should be completed and ND 1 admission should take place.
2. If Ipokia would not be completed, there should be admission in MAPOLY.
3. The salaries of ASUP should be settled.

We however call on the governor pleading that he look diligently into this issue and put the students in mind.

Signed:
COMRADE OLUWASEGUN S. AKINNIYI
